This vintage Teamsters medallion belonged to my grandfather, John T. O’Brien, the youngest of eleven children and orphaned by age ten. With eight sisters to care for, Jack left school at thirteen and began working as a van driver in Cleveland, Ohio. By sixteen, he was hauling freight through the city. He was elected Secretary-Treasurer of Local 392, affiliated with the A.F.L. Teamsters, and was re-elected 17 times without opposition—a testament to his leadership and integrity.

The medallion features the emblem of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen & Helpers of America (I.B. of T.C.W. & H. of A.), with two horse heads and a winged wheel—symbols of strength and solidarity in the early labor movement.

Included:

Certificate of Provenance (signed by me, his granddaughter)

Two newspaper articles (one on parchment, one hand-typed)

Photos of Jack and his first horse-drawn moving van.

This is more than a collectible—it’s a piece of American labor history.
